Does GitHub Copilot support MCP?
GitHub Copilot supports Model Context Protocol (MCP) client integrations on Free, Pro, Pro Plus, Business, and Enterprise, including Free individual seats not covered by the Business/Enterprise MCP policy gate.
What this state means
Supported, with the qualification kept attached.
MCP works across Copilot surfaces (IDE, CLI, app, cloud agent). Business/Enterprise org MCP policy is disabled by default and only governs Business/Enterprise seats. Free/Pro/Pro Plus MCP is not governed by that org policy. Individual tool entitlements inside servers can still require paid features.
Connects to external Model Context Protocol servers and makes their tools or resources available to the product.
An official MCP server published by a vendor is not the same as that vendor product acting as an MCP client.
Researcher note
Path A pairs MCP concepts (Free/Pro not under org MCP policy) with marketing plans page stating agent mode integrates with MCP servers. Aligns product plan strings Free/Pro/Pro Plus/Business/Enterprise.
