Devin Desktop can delegate work to cloud Devin on Pro and Teams. That session keeps working on its own virtual machine after you close your laptop.
What this state means

The cloud session runs on Devin's own virtual machine, not the local shell. Docs also include Max, which is not a plan in this registry, so it is not recorded. Enterprise requires an admin to enable Devin. Free is not listed as included. Cloud access is rolling out gradually.
Runs delegated work asynchronously while the user leaves the active session.
A long synchronous response or an agent loop that requires an open session is not a background agent.
Researcher note
Path A pairs docs.devin.ai/desktop with devin.ai/blog. The April 2026 announcement still says Windsurf, the editor Cognition renamed Devin Desktop on 2026-06-02. Plan names come from the current Desktop docs, not the announcement. A Devin CLI handoff page describes a different surface and was not used.
