Does Claude Code support File upload?
Claude Code accepts image, PDF, and other file attachments in the desktop Code tab, while the CLI getting-started guide says there is nothing to upload or attach.
What this state means
Supported with conditions, with the qualification kept attached.
Desktop Code tab documents an attachment button and drag-and-drop for images, PDFs, and other files. The CLI first-day guide says there is nothing to upload or attach when you start inside a repository, because Claude Code reads those files on demand. Official pages checked do not name a plan gate for desktop attachments.
Accepts user files as first-class conversational or project context.
Repository workspace access is not automatically classified as a general-purpose file-upload feature.
Researcher note
Path A pairs code.claude.com/docs/en/desktop with support.claude.com/en/articles/14552382-your-first-day-in-claude-code. The desktop feature table also marks CLI file attachments as not available and Desktop attachments as Images, PDFs, but that table is the same page, so it is not the second source. Did not invent a plan list. Did not record PDF analysis: the desktop page calls attachments useful as reference documents but does not say Claude extracts PDF text. Image paste remains the separate image-input record.
