What this state means

Supported with conditions, with the qualification kept attached.

Agent mode runs commands in a terminal on ChatGPT's virtual computer, not the user's local shell. The help center says agent mode is paid plans only, not Free, and lists monthly limits for Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise. Edu appears in workspace-control headings but not in that limit table, so it is not recorded as a confirmed plan. ChatGPT Work also documents shell commands, with availability depending on plan, platform, region, rollout, and workspace settings. Codex CLI is a separate product.

Capability definition

Can run shell commands in a local, remote, or sandboxed command-line environment.

Scope boundary

The record must identify the execution surface; a cloud sandbox is not local-machine shell access.

Researcher note

Path A pairs the agent launch note (virtual-computer terminal) with the ChatGPT Work guide (shell commands) and the agent help article (paid plans only). The July 2025 launch sentence also names Team, which is not a ChatGPT plan in this registry and is not copied. Work with Apps can read Terminal.app panes on macOS; that is context from another app, not ChatGPT executing a shell, so it is not used here.
